Volunteers from the US, Taiwan, China and Thailand cooperate to promote DEEP teaching materials and bring wireless charging technology into elementary schools

As the opening day for elementary schools in Taiwan approached, the 12th Delta Energy Education Program has cheerfully begun on 31st and 30th August. After the successful teaching of electric cars and motors’ basic engine principle with the triangular electromagnetism teaching aids, the wireless charging technology is the next topic to be introduced to the schools. Senior volunteering staffs from energy education sites in the U.S., Thailand, Shanghai, Hunjiang, Chengdu and Beijing all came and learned how the wireless car charging module developed by Cyntec can be used as teaching aids for electromagnetism in schools.

The program was in itself a exemplifier of energy savings in daily lives. Despite the distance of the venue and an increase in the number of participants, public transportation was arranged by the training provider to minimize the carbon emissions from transport. The concept of ‘Food Miles’ was promoted to reduce the environmental impact of food. As learned from this year’s topic, a substantial cut in vehicle emission could be achieved by electric public transportation, a green trip was organized for the participants. Volunteers traveled with Tamsui light rail to visit the Chi Po-lin Museum and learn about the passion and selfless dedication to the environment of the documentary filmmaker and environmentalist Chi Po-lin. Finally, group discussions and teaching demonstrations are held in the diamond-level green building in Xinshi Elementary School at Tamsui. This was the first time for volunteers to bring their school-age children to learn together, and the parents also drew great encouragement from the participation of those young assistants.

Energy education volunteers traveled with light rail to visit the Chi Po-lin Museum

Apart from acquiring energy literacy in the training, oversea volunteers were also here to exchange their experience at different energy education sites. Arthur, who works at Delta Americas and is responsible for promoting Corporate Social Responsibility, applied wireless teaching aids to volunteer events at junior high schools and senior high schools in DPC after participating last year’s Delta Energy Education Program in Taiwan. The implementation of energy education for Deltas in China covers the widest area. Heng Lin from Delta Electronics Shanghai reported that the collaboration between local elementary schools and every subsidiary was rewarded for the contribution to energy education. Solar energy was introduced to children by Delta Electronics Thailand. The Thailand representative Teresa shared their lesson plan of combining green building with solar cooker. And we couldn’t stop watering during her report. In addition, overseas members also brought inspiring stories about green buildings in their climate region, from net zero energy building (NET ZEB) in north America to Delta Electronics Thailand’s renovation of its plant from old buildings and to Yangguang elementary school in Chengdu, Sichuan. Instead of merely statistics on the paper which the volunteers in Taiwan were very familiar with, these stories added human touches to green buildings.

The Program ‘Low-Carbo Transport’ will open for applications from October 2019 to June 2020. Schools near Delta Taipei, Taoyuan, Zhongli and Taichung are first considered. For more news and information, please visit Delta Electronics Foundation official website.
