2026 Delta Power Electronics New Technology Seminar enables energy transition and a low-carbon future

The 2026 Delta Power Electronics New Technology Seminar was held in Wujiang, Jiangsu, China, bringing together more than 500 experts, scholars, faculty members, students, and Delta employees from 16 universities in China. As digital applications continue to expand and next-generation power systems are being developed at an accelerating pace, power electronics has become increasingly critical to improving energy conversion efficiency, enhancing power system stability, and optimizing infrastructure energy performance. During the seminar, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on fundamental research in power electronics, data center energy efficiency improvement, microgrid development, and other key topics, exploring both underlying theories and future technology trends.

In his opening remarks, Professor Fred C. Lee, a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of Delta Power Electronics Science and Technology Educational Development Program and Delta Scholar Program, reflected on the initiative he launched in 2000 with Delta founder Bruce Cheng to support university research in power electronics. He noted that over the past 26 years, fundamental research in the field has continued to advance, academic collaboration has flourished, and a growing number of outstanding young scholars have dedicated themselves to power electronics. These achievements, he said, reflect the original vision behind the Delta Power Electronics Science and Technology Educational Development Program and Delta Scholar Program

Delta Chairman and CEO Ping Cheng stated that rapid advances in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and new energy technologies have made power electronics—the core technology for energy conversion and control—an increasingly important driver of industrial transformation. Delta places talent development and innovation at the center of its strategy, investing 8%-10% of its annual revenue in research and development. The company continues to strengthen its expertise in data centers, smart grids, and energy infrastructure while maintaining long-term support fortwo programs. This year, the initiatives were expanded to include 16 universities, further encouraging the open sharing of research findings in power electronics and fostering collaboration between industry and academia to create greater value for society and the environment.

During the seminar, Professor Laili Wang and Professor Hongliang Wang were named 2026 Delta Scholars. In addition, Associate Professor Jinpeng Wu, Professor  Leming Zhou, and ProfessorGuoqiang Zhang  received the Delta Young Scholar Award, while 85 graduate students were awarded Delta scholarships. The event also featured the Delta New-Type Power System Forum, where Professor Richard Zhang of Virginia Tech, Professor Zuyi Li of Zhejiang University, and Dr. Waqas Arshad, Vice President of Product and Technology for Microgrid Solutions at Delta Americas, delivered keynote presentations on power electronics technology trends, energy infrastructure, and intelligent microgrids. Their presentations provided valuable insights into emerging industry trends and future application opportunities.

As the foundation of efficient energy conversion and utilization, power electronics has become a key enabler of the global transition to a green, low-carbon economy while strengthening energy security. Through the seminar, Delta brought together leading experts to foster an open platform for academic exchange, helping accelerate the energy transition and advance sustainable, low-carbon development.
